In the evaporator coil formed a leak which had to be replaced. Now again in leaky evaporator coil again. Was told by contractor that these are such junk they quit selling them.
He suggests I replace with a quality unit, not a florida heat pump rather than put evaporator coils every couple years. These things are junk. Very expensive mistake. Never had any product that was this bad. If anyone mentions the name Florida Heat Pump to you, run the other way as fast as you can. This less than 5 year old unit, if a car, would qualify for the lemon law, t was plagued by Freon leaks from the day it was installed, After several service calls they seemed to abate.
Now the unit has had several Freon fills and the servicing company wants to sell me a new unit saying the coil leak would be difficult to repair and since Bosch only has a 5 year warranty, Id be better off with a new unit.
The Bosch rep I discussed the problem with told me only the compressor was warrantied for 5 years. so bad luck, Unfortunately this has adversely effected our overall opinion of Bosch appliances, which had been very positive. This is the 3rd FHP since and this one was installed in June I will need another replacement. There does not seems to be a brand of water source heat pump that is dependable.

Buyer beware!!!!!!!! These units Suck! Very poorly made, leaks are notorious, controls suck! STAY AWAY FROM THESE UNITS! Have had two FHP 4ton units; both bought from FHP before Bosh. The first one lasted from until , the second lasted until A short in the compressor connector power supply caused the compressor to burn out. Compressor was replaced in and it lasted until September Seems to me that if Bosh could fix the problem with their evaporators, the new ones would be as good as the old ones.
A building I take care of has 40 FHPs in it. At 4 years evaporators started leaking. I replaced 12 evaporators.
Now 3 years later 2 of the 12 are leaking again. My first water based heat pump was a Fredrick no longer made it lasted 20 years. My second is a FHP and it has been installed for 15 years. The first 12 years when great, but then leak developed in the air coil similar to others comments above , but I had it replaced hoping for another years of operation.
However I have had continued problems the last three years with the compressor needing a extra capacitor and now another slow leak and a wire failure to the high pressure sensor, and work on it produced another leak.
My maintenance costs over the last three years have been more than my power costs. It is time to replace the unit. I read that units can last 25 years. Not my experience with a FHP. I guess we were fortunate. Our FHP has preformed like a champion for almost 20 years. The only part replaced was the water solenoid valve. I found the exact replacement for eighteen dollars at a lawn irrigation supply store.
Guess the newer units are not built to the same standards. I do know the quality of water running through the unit can shorten the coil life. We have a good supply of water being pumped through the unit as well as a optional corrosion resistant coil which is a good option to consider.
We first bought a Florida Heat Pump in , right when they were first produced. We were building a new house, but the area at that time was semi-rural, with no gas or water available. So had to put in a well, which worked real well for the FHP at that time, plus we got a lot of environmental discounts which were offered.. The system worked well for us until the compressor went in , so we bought a new FHP unit. We have had some minor problems with the new one, but it does keep our electric bill low.
